http://www.geeklawblog.com/2010/09/superhero-lawyers-theyre-all-big-but.html

This blog is written by three lawyers who together team up and combine forces to fight the evil we see everyday - crime. They expose how lawyers are really heros, and the specific post that is linked explains that many superheroes of comics and movies have chosen to live their 'everyday' lives as lawyers.

  1. I think this blog is extremely contradictory. Most super heros have to work outside the law to fight crime their way. The fact that a group of lawyers is advocating them is just ironic. If one were took look further into the background stories of some of the supers listed in the blog, one would find that most of the characters became superheroes simply because the law was not sufficient in dishing out justice or that the law system was so corrupt the hero needed to became the true system of justice. Again, superheros being compared to this allegedly corrupt system is just a shining example of irony.

  2. I like the idea that lawyers were put in a relatively positive light to what they're usually depicted as. Usually they're always portrayed as evil and underhanded, but this looks at it from a different view. Instead of the typical conniving, self-interested image most forms of media display lawyers as, this sees them as selfless keepers of justice. Both images of lawyers are understandable, but I think that cartoons, TV shows, movies, et cetera lean more towards the negative side of what lawyers do. It was a refreshing idea that I'd like to see more of. What real life profession is most like a superhero? A lawyer. They put villains away like superheroes. I want to see more of this in superhero culture.

  3. this is a cool blog. Its interesting to see how many heroes have the same job. It makes me wonder why so many of these heroes have the same job. I know that many other superheroes have the same job for example many heros work somewhere at like a newspaper. Which makes sense because the heros will hear about news quickly and be able to go save others. But i don't understand why lawyer would be such a good profession for a superhero. The only thing I can think of is that maybe they have it so they know all the laws but a lot of the time superheroes break the laws in order to save people. However it is an interesting blog and pretty professional. Id like to see the list of superheroes which are pharmacists (which is going to be my profession).

  4. I found that this blog was very informative and I learned so much about the different superheroes out there. Despite all of that, I found the blog to be very bland. To be honest it was not very exciting or intriguing. I wanted it to be more about the crimes these superheroes face. Yes, it is true that they are all lawyers, but what makes each one different from the other. I would have appreciated more insight as to the dilemmas each one of them faces in their everyday lives. All this blog explained was what kind of lawyer they were; it would have been nice to get more background information on their superhero attributes considering the fact some of them are not common superheroes, at least for me personally. Not only was the blog itself kind of boring but the look of the blog was the same way. There was really no color to attract readers except for the pictures and because of that it just looked like every other blog. The concept was kind of interesting because I do not think I ever noticed how many superheroes were lawyers, but I think the execution could have been stronger for this blog. It is probably one I would not revisit, but I would actually reconsider if the blog had an overhaul in terms of its look and the way the information is organized. And I agree with Mike, it would be cool to see which superheroes have the same occupation that I am interested in.

  5. This blog has a "wikipedia feel" to it. It is very plain, clean cut with a few links to click off of from the text. There is nothing thrilling to invite a reader into the text. I feel that even once you start to read it is still kind of plain and just gives you the facts of the article instead of having some type of appealing quality. However, it is interesting to see the connection between superheroes and lawyers. I like the idea of "justice for the less fortunate." It gives a lead for why there are so many super heroes that have the day job of a lawyer. But I feel like there could have been more of an insight to this idea through the blog, instead of just a list of the heroes.

  6. Honestly, I feel that this blog better proves a lack of connectivity between superheroes and lawyers because hardly any of these heroes are that well known. I personally, had heard of less than half of the superheroes listed. And a couple of the ones that i did recognize seemed to only be minor characters in their stories. Personally, I feel that the dull style of the blog perfectly represents why lawyers don't play a larger part in comic strips. No kid wants to read about what's going on in a court case, they want action.

  7. I hate leaving negative opinions, but I wasn’t a huge fan of this particular blog post. I think I can understand how the topic might be interesting, but the actual result was kind of boring. I couldn’t even get through all of the hero descriptions because I kept getting distracted. I like the idea of these people being lawyers during the day and superheroes at night. They are apparently very dedicated to getting justice because they do it all day long. As I’ve said in many blog posts before, I am not the biggest fan of superheroes, but I do recognize many of them. A lot of the super heroes mentioned in the blog were kind of obscure, I thought. Can we walk about Manhunter (Kate Spencer) for one second? She’s definitely naked…besides the gloves and shoulder pads.

However, in relation to the whole blog (3 Geeks and a Law Blog), I was impressed with their variety of subject matter on other posts. If the superhero post was the only thing on the blog, then I would be uninterested. But, since they offer so much other information, the idea of having a blog post about superheroes is really different and fun! The authors of this blog create many different posts a week, which shows that they are dedicated to the blog.

  8. I think this blog could be expanded and improved to make it more interesting. The idea "3 geeks and the law" of them sounds great; however, the result is nothing like the expectations. The blog is pretty plain and weak. It would be nice if they express more of the personal opinions to show the connection between heroes and lawyers/law rather than make it like a summary profile of those heroes. Most of the heroes listed are very minor that I didn't know about. Even though, I'm not fully get or feel the message the blog authors want to convey, the blog is actually not that bad. It's kinda interesting to know some of the heroes are the lawyers.

  9. I had trouble getting into this blog, considering how just blah it is. However, it had some interesting information in it. It's amazing how many superheroes are also lawyers, but I guess it shouldn't be all that surprising considering both jobs are advocations for justice. Evenso, I have heard of very few of these heroes. The more exciting heroes seem to have more exciting jobs - billionaire, scientist, etc. I definitely would rather read a comic about a brilliant scientist than the law anyday.

  10. The general idea for this blog is pretty interesting, but the way it is constructed is rather boring. Some of the information is pretty cool though. I had no idea there were this many lawyer superheroes (even though i recognize about 3 of them). Also I agree with a lot of the others who appreciated the irony of portraying lawyers as heroes when they are usually portrayed as dishonest people.

  11. This blog was too plain and boring for me to be even remotely interested. It was a cool concept to portray the similarities of lawyers and heroes but the author was counter-productive in proving his point. I agree with tkocab in the sense that the skimpiness and failure to provide well-known heroes made the blog unrelatable. The setup was plain which would have been fine except the information failed to make the authors intended point of the lawyer/superhero connection. This topic was doomed to failure from the start, maybe he could go in a different direction with it?

  12. From the start of this blog I knew only one of the heroes that was mentioned. The majority of the superheroes mentioned I did not know or haven't even heard of. I also agree with tkocab the lawyer/superhero combination just isn't interesting. Also the blog itself just doesn't hold my attention. The descriptions of the heroes bored me simply because I did not know who the heroes were.

  13. superheroes aren't really my specialty, and I agree with Reece, I didn't know the superheroes and therefore, I had ZERO interest in this blog. I think that it is interesting for the audience they are trying to appeal to: people interested in law. I will credit the group with a unique post. (:

  14. I think this blog is a funny look at other side of the professional world. This blog is written by lawyers who have an interest in comic books and superheroes that are lawyers by day. The contributers are able to share their common interests and enjoy a small community of like minded lawyers. The main article lists famous superheroes from comic books and television whose second identities are lawyers. Some of the most recognizeable lawyer/superheroes are: Daredevil, She Hulk, and Gazerbeam. Looking into superhero blogs are always interesting but this one is especially entertaining because of the unique demographic.

  15. Not gonna lie, I read through the first two superheroes and then quit reading. Like the majority of people here, I couldn't get into it--everything was, simply, too boring. tkocab makes a point in that the superheroes described in this article are not very well-known. I'm not familiar with many superheroes to begin with, so almost everyone on this list are people I've never heard of, and, frankly, after reading the author's first "comparison" between superhero and lawyer, I really could care less. It isn't so much the content as it is his writing style; like Katlyn said, it has a "Wikipedia feel" to it, listing off facts and not giving anything more than a "I'm glad I didn't read this storyline" opinion-wise. Skimming all the way to the end of the article, I'm still not quite sure what point he's trying to make with this whole superhero-lawyer thing.

The blog's appearance, on the other hand, is plain, which I guess works with the information/research/wiki article he's got going on. It's very straightforward, with picture aligned with every paragraph of text. The simplicity is appealing.

  16. I thought the idea behind this blog was pretty interesting. I feel like the lives of the people portrayed in this blog are completely different, but the same in a way. Let me explain. Basically, both superheroes and lawyers dedicate their lives to bringing justice to the world in some way. The major difference is how they execute this justice. Superheroes use their brawn and physical abilities to literally fight evil, while lawyers use their intelligence and power of language to defend the innocent. So, if one person could be both of these, they would basically be a super human. Wow. These people have it all.

  17. The blog comes across as social backwards. But, it does to a good job in providing us with a paradigm that not every lawyer out in the world is thirsting for blood and money. And in fact there still are people in the world who give a damn. Thanks for posting.
